Sales Network Extends to No. Carolina, So. Carolina, Virg.
EVERGREEN, Colo.—The Piedmont Municipal Power Agency (Piedmont Power) and ElectriCities of North Carolina (ElectriCities) will be representing APPA’s Hometown Connections in the sales and marketing responsibilities for the products and services they offer. Jointly, Piedmont Power and ElectriCities will offer Hometown Connections’ products and services to the public power communities throughout South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
Headquartered in Greer, South Carolina, Piedmont Power is a joint action agency formed by ten municipal electric utilities in the northwest section of South Carolina. Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, ElectriCities is a not-for-profit organization committed to providing services to public power communities across the Carolinas and Virginia. Hometown Connections is the utility services subsidiary of the American Public Power Association (APPA), negotiating lower purchase prices from industry suppliers on behalf of all APPA members across the U.S. The products and services offered through Hometown Connections include SCADA systems, advanced metering infrastructure over power lines, broadband Internet over power lines, customer information software, customer & employee research, automated external defibrillators, online energy information/audits, and consulting in the areas of energy risk management, broadband communications, and business strategy development.

At present, a network of 17 public power entities across the U.S. serve as Hometown Connections local sales or marketing representatives. The local sales representatives work directly with the suppliers and the public power utilities in their state or region throughout the product inquiry, sale and delivery process. The local marketing representatives help advertise and promote the products and services offered by Hometown Connections. The 8 public power local sales representatives are: Piedmont Municipal Power Agency, ElectriCities of North Carolina, American Municipal Power-Ohio, Alabama Municipal Electric Authority, Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia, Crawfordsville, Ind., Electric Light & Power, Walter McGrath (New England), and Bill Moss (Tennessee). The 9 public power local marketing representatives are: Energy Northwest, City of Safford (AZ), Florida Municipal Electric Association, Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities, Indiana Municipal Electric Association, Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma, Illinois Municipal Utilities Association, Texas Public Power Association, and Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association.

The agency was formed by, and continues to provide wholesale electric service to, ten municipal utilities in the upstate of South Carolina.
