Ebert to focus on regional outreach on APPA’s Strategic Initiatives
CRYSTAL CITY, VA and LAKEWOOD CO. (July 15, 2016) – Continuing his distinguished career in the public power industry, Mr. Dan Ebert is joining the team of the American Public Power Association (APPA) and of Hometown Connections, APPA’s utility services subsidiary. Mr. Ebert will serve as an Executive Consultant for both organizations, helping public power utilities obtain the products and services they need to provide their communities with safe, reliable, affordable electricity, with appropriate environmental stewardship. Mr. Ebert will share information about, and gather feedback on, the products and services offered by APPA and Hometown Connections.
Mr. Ebert will serve as a liaison to public power systems in the states of Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Mr. Ebert brings to APPA and Hometown Connections 25 years’ experience in energy policy and advocacy, management, energy market formation and operation, corporate communications and coalition management. As Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and External Relations for WPPI Energy, he was responsible for legislative and regulatory affairs, corporate communication, and policy development functions for the Sun Prairie, Wis.-based electric utility serving 51 municipal members in three states. While at WPPI Energy, he served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Transmission Access Policy Study Group (TAPS).
Mr. Ebert also served on the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin from January 2003 to May 2008 and was appointed Chairman in 2005. While at the PSC, he served on the Board of Directors of the Organization of MISO States (OMS), serving as Vice-President from 2005-2008.
“Dan Ebert will serve as an important ambassador for APPA’s recently adopted strategic initiatives, including the ’Public Power Forward’ initiative, which is addressing technological and regulatory changes that are re-shaping public power utilities and their relationships with their customers,” said Sue Kelly, APPA President and CEO. “As he travels to public power communities across the U.S., Dan will share information with our members about the products and services currently available to them from APPA and Hometown Connections, as well as gather insight on new ways our organizations may help improve utility operations and performance.”
“We are very excited to welcome Dan Ebert to Hometown Connections, as we develop new strategies for sharing resources with APPA,” said Tim Blodgett, President and CEO. “Since our founding by APPA in 1998, Hometown personnel have worked closely with the APPA staff in service of public power communities. Having Dan on board, able to report what he is learning in the field about today’s industry challenges and priorities, will enable us to enhance our suite of products and services in ways that are of the highest value to public power. Dan will also be part of Hometown’s management resource consulting team, helping APPA members address the evolving utility business model.”
