Introducing Cogsdale Cloud for IT Security and Savings

January 2018

Cloud or SaaS has been making strides in the public sector industry in the last few years. Organizations see a measurable increase in business productivity with considerable reduction in operational, IT, and maintenance costs. Cogsdale Cloud is a great solution for clients that prefer to leave the administration of all hardware and software components, as well as security, to a trusted partner. When leveraging Cloud, you reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), which includes the following and more:

  • Initial cost of servers, storage, network gear, etc.
  • Cost of setup, configuration, and testing of new gear
  • Cost of developing IT staff to do setup/maintenance/troubleshooting
  • Cost of setting up high availability
  • Cost of doing backups and setting up replication/disaster recovery
  • Cost of keeping environment and network secure
  • Cost of regularly patching O/S and hardware, etc.
  • Cost of server room (power, cooling, fire suppression, etc.)
  • Cost of downtime
  • Cost of decommissioning old hardware and exporting data

Cogsdale Cloud, housed on Microsoft Azure world-class datacenters, provides organizations of all sizes high performance and peace of mind, while enabling them to focus on their core business. Cogsdale Cloud offers:

  • High-performance servers tailored for SQL-based applications
  • A unique network subnet per customer to segregate and secure all network traffic
  • Storage on solid state drives geared to reduce latency and maximize data throughput
  • Hosting in Tier 3+ datacenters throughout North America with an uptime of over 99.9%
  • Implementation approach is the same as an on-premise solution
  • Integrations are managed securely through a VPN tunnel

  • State-of-the-art datacenters have mandatory security training and background checks for staff
  • All datacenters go through annual penetration testing and offer intrusion detection
  • Cogsdale Cloud has chosen Azure, a leader in ISO and CSA (Cloud Security Alliance) certifications and audits
  • Encryption is leveraged, where possible, for data at rest and in transit

  • Customers receive advance notification of all planned changes. Upgrade and patch management happens after hours, and when necessary, secondary servers are provided during upgrades and any major process changes
  • Threshold limits are set for servers, network ports, etc., and server and environment resources can be increased to ensure optimal performance
  • Customer IT staff have administrative privileges on their own servers for maintenance and management purposes, if needed
  • Data backup can be included with Cogsdale Cloud. Backups are streamed to another datacenter for safekeeping

Technical Requirements & Recommendations

  • Redundant Internet feed at client office (a secondary Internet feed is an inexpensive investment that ensures you are always connected to the Internet and your Cloud setup)
  • Windows computers running Remote Desktop Services (all versions of Windows have this)
  • VPN capability in order to setup up a VPN tunnel

Cogsdale is your prime vendor for the Cloud solution, providing all technical setup and one contract/invoice to simplify your move to the Cloud.
